Replacing a barn conversion floor in Hampshire
| The floor collapses Alton Wood Floors Ltd was recently involved in a project to repair the floor in a beautiful barn conversion in Bramdean. The barn conversion floor had been built over a swimming pool. During a party with over 100 guests the floor had collapsed under the weight of the dancing, party goers. Thankfully no guests were injured. On investigation the swimming pool had not been sealed against damp. The joists, ply board and floor had rotted weakening the floor considerably leading to the collapse of the floor on party night. | ||
![]() | The work begins We stripped back the floor, removed the ply and flooring. Dehumidifiers were left running in the 85m2 room for 2 weeks, to help the whole area dry out. We then coated the swimming pool in 2 coats of damp proof protection. The joists were replaced with treated timber and marine grade ply was overlaid in preparation for the Oiled Oak engineered floor. Prior to the new Oak floor being laid an underlay with sound reduction, insulation and DPM barrier(moisture barrier) was laid. | ![]() |
![]() | Quality barn conversion The floor had been chosen to compliment the fantastic Oak beams, staircase and pillars in the room. The house was in a five page feature in Hampshire Life magazine last year beause of the quality of the conversion and the interior design. The floor compliments the fantastic features of this incredible building. As you can see below, the room is now being used as a gym by the household. | ![]() |
